Watch a Sunset at Montana de Oro State Park
Rocky cliff-lines, green hills, and an absence of crowds make Montana de Oro one of the West Coast's most romantic shorelines. Enter the park by driving through a forest of tall green trees to arrive at a coastline with craggy rock formations and deep blue crashing waters. Alongside your loved one, hike up to the top of Valencia Peak and take in panoramic views of the ocean and hills, or bring food along and have a picnic on the beach. Whatever you choose to do, time your trip to Montana de Oro to coincide with the sunset, because the views you'll experience are as peaceful and romantic as they come.
Horseback Riding on the Beach
Whether you're an experienced rider or want to try something new, horseback riding can be a fun and exciting way to bond with your partner. Imagine sea breeze blowing in your face and a fantastic coastal view. You can rent horses for rides in numerous places throughout Los Osos and the larger San Luis Obispo area. But if you're more experienced, you can store your own horse in Sea Pines' corral and ride directly from the hotel to Montana de Oro, which is only a two minute walk or ride away.
Go Wine Tasting
On a leisurely, warm weekend afternoon, nothing sounds better than hopping from one local winery to another and tasting dynamic, luscious, or fruity and sparkling wines. This is a . great way to learn more about the region, because wine is intrinsically tied to the Central Coast. Additionally, meet fun and interesting winery workers, and bond with your loved one over a shared experience. If you ask questions and learn more from the workers, you'll be sure to find a newfound appreciation for the process of winemaking and our very own Central Coast wine region, and maybe find a home-away-from-home together.
Take a Scenic Drive
There are no shortage of scenic roads near Los Osos, not including the ones already highlighted within Montana de Oro. Take Los Osos Valley Road for a ten mile drive east of the Sea Pines hotel and turn right on Perfumo Canyon Road and continue driving to the top of the hill to see one of the most striking vistas: from the West, Morro Rock, endless ocean, and the beautiful geography of Montana de Oro, to the east with the repeating mountainous peaks and the small town of San Luis Obispo nestled into rolling hills. There are numerous other beautiful, scenic routes that are perfect for playing music and enjoying the view, including Turri Road in Los Osos, Nacimiento-Fergusson road in Big Sur, and the 46 between Paso Robles and Cambria.
Explore the Coast
There is plenty to see and discover with your loved one along the coastline near Sea Pines. In San Simeon, visit the elephant seal rookery, where hundreds of elephant seals rest, fight, and raise their pups on a sandy stretch of beach. One of the peak seasons to see elephant seals here is mid-winter, perfect for a Valentine's Day outing. On a cold day, explore the Central Coast from inside at the Coastal Discovery Center in Simeon Bay; where, in hands-on learning, you can learn about Old San Simeon, California State Parks and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Finally, a capstone experience of the Central Coast is visiting Hearst Castle, a lavish hillside mansion that offers daily guided tours.
